Young Americans Bank, the only bank in the world specifically designed for young people, was established in Denver in 1987 to offer a hands-on opportunity for young people to learn about banking and personal finance. The bank, founded by cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, is a state-chartered, FDIC-insured institution that offers all the services adult banks offer, but with an emphasis on financial education. With nearly 16,000 customers from all fifty states and a dozen foreign countries, Young Americans Bank is truly international in scope.
By 1989, Young Americans Center for Financial Education was established as a nonprofit companion to the bank. The financial and economic programs of the Center - funded entirely by the community - enhance and reinforce the bank's mission. Combined, the bank and nonprofit programs reach more than 45,000 youth every year, providing young people with important life and work skills that will enable them to prosper in our free enterprise system as financially self-sufficient adults.
