Variny Yim - Regional Director, Western States

Variny Paladino

Variny Paladino Yim is an independent communications and financial education consultant. Currently, she is the regional director, western states, for the Jump$tart Coalition, as well as a financial literacy trainer for Visa, Inc. and a blogger for Money Wise Women. Variny has written and blogged for other financial education websites including LifeTuner and Kwedit. She also served as a communications consultant for the national PBS show MoneyTrack® that teaches people how to invest and protect their money.

Previously, Variny was director of three national financial education programs of the nonprofit, Washington, D.C.-based Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI):

  • The American Savings Education Council (ASEC) coalition, whose mission is to make saving and retirement planning a priority for all Americans;
  • The Choose to Save® multimedia public service campaign; and
  • The annual Retirement Confidence Survey (RCS).

Variny began her career as a print and broadcast journalist at USA WEEKEND Magazine, USA TODAY, and NBC. Later, she did public relations for high-profile companies such as Maxis/Electronic Arts, Starbucks Coffee Company, 24 Hour Fitness, Kodak.com and Monsanto.

A native of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Variny resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. She double-majored in Political Science and French from Wellesley College graduate. Recently she collaborated on a personal finance book with Jessica Blatt called, “The Teen Girl’s Gotta-Have-It-Guide to Money” and published her first novel, “The Immigrant Princess.”
