Investments and You

Pre-Conference  Friday, Nov. 3 – 1:30-4 p.m.

Even some of our most seasoned teachers tell us they wish they were more comfortable with investing—as educators and as consumers. In this special pre-conference seminar, you'll gain a better understanding of investing from the perspective of an investor. Christopher M. Lee of New England Capital Financial Advisors will lead the session and answer your questions. Chris is not only one of our most popular workshop presenters, he's also the state coalition leader from the Connecticut Jump$tart Coalition. This session is suitable for investors from novice to experienced.  There is no cost to participate, but as space is limited, you must register in advance.

W!SE Certification in Personal Finance (CPF) Test for Teachers

Pre-Conference - Friday, Nov. 3  12:30-3:30 p.m.

A Jump$tart Coalition national partner, Working in Support of Education (W!SE), also will offer teachers the unique opportunity to earn a Certification in Personal Finance by taking and passing the W!SE CPF Test. The certification supports teacher capacity-building and demonstrates a strong knowledge of personal finance.

To take the W!SE CFP Test, please indicate your interest when you register for the Jump$tart National Educator Conference. A W!SE representative will contact you; a separate registration and $50 fee is required. Once registered, you will be sent the W!SE CFP Study Manual, which includes all the topics needed to review and prepare for the test.

All teachers who take the W!SE CPF Test at #JSNEC17 will be entered into a raffle for a FREE Fitbit! Please contact Jason Benjamin at W!SE jbenjamin@wise-ny.org for more information.

Certified Personal and Family Finance Educator Qualifying Exam

Pre-Conference - Friday, Nov. 3  12:30-3:30 p.m.

A Jump$tart Coalition national partner, the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences, will once again offer certification testing for its Certified Personal and Family Finance Educator credential in conjunction with our conference. Open to educators regardless of baccalaureate major, interested participants must register and pay for this exam separately. Please click here to learn more about this certification and register directly with AAFCS.

The three-hour test will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, before the Jump$tart National Educator Conference. Teachers interested in taking the certification test should indicate their interest when completing the conference registration. AAFCS will then contact you, directly. Note that a separate fee, paid to AAFCS, will be required. Please direct questions about this certification to the AAFCS.

Clearinghouse 'Playhouse'

Pre-Conference - Friday, Nov. 3 - 1:00-3:30 p.m.

Teachers ask; Jump$tart Coalition delivers! Over the years, teachers have asked us for more guidance on using the Jump$tart Clearinghouse of financial education resources — and a bit more time than what's usually feasible at our busy exhibit table.

Jump$tart Clearinghouse Director Anne Bannister will lead an informal workshop on using the Clearinghouse to find just the resources you need. This session is perfect for new teachers and those new to teaching personal finance; however, veteran teachers are welcome and might enjoy exploring our new feedback and sharing options. Bring your laptop, tablet or smartphone for a hands-on experience.  There is no cost to participate, but as space is limited, you must register in advance.
