Certified Personal and Family Finance Educator Qualifying Exam

Saturday, November 8 - 12:00 – 3:30 p.m.

 

Jump$tart National Partner, the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences, will once again offer certification testing for its Certified Personal and Family Finance Educator credential in conjunction with our conference. Open to educators regardless of baccalaureate major.  Interested participants must register and pay for this exam separately. Please click here to contact AAFCS directly for more information.

The Personal and Family Finance Educator Certification will measure professional competence to teach content consistent with the U.S. Department of Treasury Financial Education Core Competencies and the National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education, published by the Jump$tart Coalition. In order to achieve certification, candidates must: hold a baccalaureate degree in any field, pass the national certification competency examination assuring others of a threshold level of knowledge based on the identified standards, and ascribe to the AAFCS Code of Ethics.

The three-hour test will be offered at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, prior to the Jump$tart National Educator Conference registration. Teachers interested in taking the certification test should indicate their interest when completing the conference registration. AAFCS will then contact you, directly, to register for the testing. Note that a separate fee, paid to AAFCS, will be required. Please direct questions about this certification to the AAFCS


 

W!SE Certification in Personal Finance (CPF) Test for Teachers

Saturday, November 8 - 12:00 – 3:30 p.m.

This year, we've added a new pre-conference certification option. Working in Support of Education (W!SE), a leading educational non-profit organization, will offer teachers the unique opportunity to earn a Certification in Personal Finance by taking and passing the W!SE CPF Test! The Certification in Personal Finance supports teacher capacity building and demonstrates a strong knowledge of personal finance. After registering for the test, teachers will be emailed the W!SE CPF Study Manual, which includes the topics teachers need to review in order to prepare for the Test. Preparation for the Certification Test is self-guided. All teachers who take the W!SE CPF Test will be entered into a raffle for a FREE Kindle Fire!!

Individual Financial Planning Sessions - Pre-Conference

Saturday, November 8 - 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Thanks to Jump$tart Partner, the Certified Financial Board of Standards, Inc., we are once again offering you personalized financial planning sessions, tailored to your own situations, from highly-qualified certified financial planners (CFP).

The Financial Planning Clinic is an optional opportunity for you to pose your specific financial questions to professional financial planners, who are volunteering their time and expertise to provide you with unbiased financial planning information. All financial planners participating in the Clinic are highly qualified to discuss your financial goals.

These private consultations are provided at absolutely no cost to you. Further, the volunteer CFP professionals are not allowed to sell products or services or solicit further business from you in any way. In other words, there are no strings attached!

If your spouse or domestic partner is in Los Angeles with you, he/she may participate in the consultation, even if not registered to attend the rest of the conference.

Only Two Steps to Participate

Just indicate your interest in attending the Clinic when you complete your conference registration. We will arrange a 20-minute appointment for you to meet privately with a CFP professional within the scheduled time period.

Experience L.A.’s entertainment, dining, and nightlife scene all in one convenient spot at Universal CityWalk. Designed as an entertainment destination reflecting the movie set architecture of Universal Studios, dozens of cool restaurants, interactive attractions, and shopping await you at CityWalk!  The ACCESS Los Angeles staff will greet you and transport you to CityWalk and then leave you to explore this three-block promenade on your own. 

 

OLD HOLLYWOOD – WALKING TOUR 

$80 per person** 

ACCESS Los Angeles will transport you to the heart of Hollywood, where tour guides will lead you on a walking tour of historic Hollywood, dating back to the mid 1800s. Guests will be given live audio headsets to hear the guide clearly throughout the tour. With captivating architecture along both sides of Hollywood Boulevard, you will be taken through the Egyptian Theater to see what many buildings were like during Hollywood’s “heyday.” Other highlights include: the Roosevelt Hotel, the El Capitan Theater, the Walk of Fame, Masonic Temple, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, (featuring footprints of the stars in the entrance courtyard) and the Dolby Theatre (home to the Academy Awards) at the Hollywood & Highland Retail and Entertainment Complex. 

 

NIGHT LIGHTS OF LA AND BEYOND – GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY  

$50 per person** 

The Griffith Observatory is a beloved icon of Los Angeles and world leader in public astronomy. It opened to the public in 1935 after "Colonel" Griffith J. Griffith donated $100,000 to the city of Los Angeles to build a public observatory on top of Mount Hollywood. See the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater, exciting astronomical exhibits, and the Observatory’s recognizable grounds, which served as a backdrop for “Rebel Without a Cause” and other popular films.  Free public telescopes are available. (Note that there will be a modest ticket price for the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, which is not included in your tour price.)

AFTERNOON BY THE SEA: GETTY VILLA AND SANTA MONICA 

$75 per person** 

In a comfortable tour bus, guests will travel along the California Coast, to the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades.  The Getty Villa—a “sister site” to The Getty Center in Brentwood—focuses on the arts and culture of ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria.  Your tour begins with audio-guided headsets in a spectacular open-air entry Pavilion, then progresses along a scenic pathway to the heart of the site, the Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman Theater. After taking in the arts high above the sea, you will re-board your bus to cruise back along the coast to Santa Monica—with free time to shop, dine, and explore popular sites such as Third Street Promenade (an upscale, outdoor shopping area) or Pacific Park, an ocean front amusement park on the Santa Monica Pier (official ending point of the famous Route 66).

 

LIGHTS, CAMERA, LOS ANGELES! TOUR

Los Angeles is a cosmopolitan, international city with ethnic diversity, customs, languages and lifestyles that influence the city’s character. Tour guides will meet you to embark on a comprehensive tour that highlights this great city and how Angelenos have shaped it. Your tour will begin with a short stop at Olvera Street Adobe & Marketplace, the birthplace of Los Angeles to explore; then we will pass the Los Angeles Entertainment District & Walt Disney Hall on the way to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills for a short stop to explore and mingle with the “rich & famous”.  Then it’s off to the famous Hollywood Blvd for a narrated walking tour where guests will learn the history of Hollywood including: The Dolby Theatre (home to the Academy Awards), the famous star walk of fame, the handprints at the Graumans Chinese Theatre and so much more.
