WHAT WE OFFER

  • Clarksdale Dollars & Sense Pilot Program:  In September 2014, American Express partnered with non-profits Moneythink and EveryoneOn to launch a three-year pilot program that aims to improve financial literacy among students and their families in the underserved community of Clarksdale, Miss. The program aims to test technology-based financial education tools to help students build a stronger foundation for their financial future. 

    Trained Moneythink mentors use mobile phone-based financial education programs to teach Clarksdale High School seniors how to budget, save and manage their money. Students have access to the Moneythink smartphone app to help them apply classroom learnings in real-life settings. EveryoneOn and Cable ONE provide free home internet to student participants, giving them the ability to continue their learning after school.

    American Express hopes to share the results of the pilot program as a blueprint to help other underserved communities enhance their financial literacy.

  • Financial Innovation Lab: American Express has launched the Financial Innovation Lab, which allows leading academics and researchers to design and test ideas that promote financial inclusion in a real-world environment. Beginning this fall, our Serve prepaid debit account holders can join the Lab, and may have the opportunity to test different ideas and interventions aimed to help them better manage their money.

    At the end of the testing period, American Express will provide Lab researchers with de-identified data about the performance and outcomes of their proposal, with the intention of sharing relevant findings with the broader academic community to help inspire more ideas and innovations to enhance financial inclusion.

  • Financial Education: American Express has been committed to developing and sponsoring consumer financial education programs for decades. Consumers can learn how to manage their card accounts and their credit profile with simple tips, advice and insight found on its Financial Education page. Topics covered include protecting your credit score, applying for a card as a young adult, and understanding different types of payment products.
