Visa Inc.

WHAT WE DO:

Helping to advance financial education for more than a decade, Visa Inc. offers teachers, students, parents and consumers of all ages, free online access to an award-winning and comprehensive money management program called Practical Money Skills for Life.  It is easily accessible at www.practicalmoneyskills.com and is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

Practical Money Skills for Life is divided into three comprehensive sections, complete with money management resources and lesson plans tailored for use at home, in the classroom or at work. It also contains an array of tips to help prepare for life-changing financial events, from planning a baby to saving for college and retirement, as well as a number of budget calculators and interactive games.

Visa also runs What's My Score, a leading higher education consumer awareness program. Available for free at www.whatsmyscore.org, What's My Score guides college students and young adults through the ABC's of credit scores, from factors that can lower a score to ways on improving it, at no charge.

WHAT'S NEW:

  • Within the Practical Money Skills for Life program, Visa has recently updated the curriculum for teachers with new material that will benefit today's student, in all age groups.
  • Visa recently showcased "Financial Football" at both the Democratic National Convention (August 26) and the Republican National Convention (September 2).  Now entering its fourth season, "Financial Football," a computer-based game accompanied by a classroom curriculum, is the centerpiece of Visa's nationwide education initiative, with the NFL and PLAYERS INC., designed to help students tackle their financial futures.  Since 2006, Visa has partnered with state government officials to distribute the game to each public high school within the following sixteen states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
  • Visa is also helping to bridge the digital divide by donating computers, with financial literacy software included, to high schools around the country.  As part of its ongoing outreach efforts to promote early and continuous financial education, especially online financial education resources, Visa is working with Members of Congress to identity deserving schools within their districts to receive these high-end laptops.
  • Earlier this year, Visa rolled out its Corporate Responsibility Program that focuses on inclusive economic growth and self-sufficiency. Improving financial literacy on a global level is an integral piece of this program. To that end, Visa has made the commitment to reach 10 million people globally with financial education by 2013.

WHAT WE NEED:

With a variety of free materials, Visa's financial education programs are easily accessible. The challenge however, is making relevant audiences aware that these materials are available and that those individuals should take advantage of this valuable information. Visa is always looking to develop relationships with consumer-focused organizations that, like Visa, are committed to improving financial literacy broadly.
