WHAT WE DO:
Citizens for Fair Credit Card Terms, Inc., is a grassroots organization devoted to educating consumers about credit cards. Founded in August 1998 in Little Rock, Arkansas, its Web site-CardRatings.com-began operations the same month.
In many ways, Arkansas is an ideal home for the organization because credit cards issued by Arkansas banks have historically been viewed as consumer friendly, particularly in regard to interest rates. CardRatings.com provides an independent source of consumer information and is not owned or governed by any banking or credit card interest.
CardRatings.com fights credit card debt by providing consumers with ratings of credit cards. It is devoted to being the leading source of objective credit card rating information. It currently offers detailed consumer information regarding approximately 1000 unique credit card offerings via two searchable databases. The Web site also offers more than 20,000 consumer reviews (written by consumers throughout the country)-believed to be more than any known organization that offers such reviews. Disclosing such information often helps consumers find more attractive credit cards and, in turn, helps them lower their credit card debt. Another added benefit is that such disclosures encourage stronger competition among credit card issuers.
WHAT WE OFFER:
In addition to the free credit card ratings and reviews, CardRatings.com offers many other free educational materials and resources. For example, it produces its own credit education articles and credit-related news stories. Articles and news stories can be distributed freely for educational purposes and are available in Word and PDF formats, upon request. CardRatings.com also offers free online calculators and an actively monitored online forum (66,000 posts) for credit education purposes. Finally, it is always happy to offer the staff's expertise regarding credit issues to community-based organizations.
WHAT WE NEED:
CardRatings.com has made a strong commitment to promoting responsible credit card usage among all consumers. It would like you to help build awareness of its efforts to expand the reach and distribution of its resources. The organization is truly consumer driven and, as a result, relies heavily on word-of-mouth advertising.
WHAT'S NEW:
Curtis Arnold, the founder of CardRatings.com, has traveled the country, speaking about credit and debt issues to the media, college students, and not-for-profit groups, including the National Council of La Raza, the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization. For the first time, he also taught these important subjects to high school students. In addition, CardRatings.com is the official provider of data on card terms and conditions for the New York State Banking Department's credit card surveys.
This year promises many new CardRatings.com developments, including Curtis Arnold's book on consumer credit issues, to be published by Prentice Hall. His work on the book will not take Curtis away from his outreach to students and his advocacy on behalf of those who need his help the most. For example, Curtis has been and will continue to be involved in efforts in his home state to combat payday loans by putting a cap on how much interest they can charge.
And the CardRatings.com site will continue to produce quality consumer-oriented news articles. It has a great team of writers who share a passion for promoting consumer education. News articles are regularly published on CardRatings.com and are distributed to other news outlets via Google News and RSS feeds. Topic suggestions are always welcome!
