WHAT WE DO:
The ACA International Education Foundation (ACAEF) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit whose mission is to serve consumers by creating and distributing tools and resources aimed at improving financial literacy. The ACAEF is the philanthropic arm of ACA International, The Association of Credit and Collection Professionals, which is the world's largest trade association for creditors and debt collectors.
WHAT WE OFFER:
Collector's Challenge
Each April, members of ACA International join the ACAEF in a series of events as part of Collector's Challenge month. Individual collection agencies hold fundraising events to support the ACAEF's financial literacy initiatives, and also go out into their local communities to share ACAEF materials and teach students and adults alike how to ensure they're on the road to financial stability. Held annually, the "Collector's Challenge" typically raises more than $30,000 for financial literacy.
Collector's Pledge
The Collector's Pledge is an ACAEF initiative to improve the public image of the credit and collection industry through professionalism and respect for consumers. The Pledge is similar to a company code of conduct espoused by many industry employers, and while not intended to replace an existing code, it does reflect the values and practices of ACA International's membership. The ACAEF plans an online registration tool allowing companies to indicate their acceptance of the Pledge and list the number of collectors that have made a personal commitment to it. The Foundation will capture the number of pledges for use in ACA and Foundation public relations efforts with consumer groups, business leaders and policy makers.
WHAT WE NEED:
The ACAEF is seeking partner associations to link to and reference the ACAEF brand new consumer education Web site, www.AskDoctorDebt.com, so that more consumers can find out about this completely free and confidential resource when it comes to helping consumers find solutions to their credit and debt issues.
WHAT'S NEW:
Ask Doctor Debt
On April 15, 2009, the ACAEF launched www.AskDoctorDebt.com, a brand new, completely free consumer education Web site. "Ask Doctor Debt" is an online version of "Dear Abby" for consumers with credit and debt questions. In addition to allowing consumers to submit and have their inquiries answered by "Ask Doctor Debt" experts on the Web site, www.AskDoctorDebt.com also features tip sheets, budget calculators and a free online personal financial management Web course designed to help consumers better understand their financial situations. After being beta tested with consumer focus groups for more than a year to ensure the site provided the best content in the most helpful way possible, www.AskDoctorDebt.com launched in April 2009 to rave reviews from national and regional media outlets.
